Gouves is a village on the north coast of Crete. When you visit this place, you’ll find that there are several villages within the area. Pano Gouves, situated in the slopes of Mt. Ederi, is the older and more traditional village. Here you can get a taste of old-style Greece while you explore the narrow streets lined with houses and tiny medieval churches.

When people refer to “Gouves”, they generally mean the beachfront region. That’s the area at the bottom of the hill with a magnificent coastline where you’ll find the bars, restaurants, and hotels.

This is the seaside town of Kato Gouves. This area features a great selection of beaches, plus a wide range of accommodations. This area is popular with tourists and has everything you might need – cafes, restaurants, and shopping. There are also many facilities offering activities like paragliding, waterskiing, and other water sports.

Gouves is a convenient home base from which to explore the rest of the region by car. It is located 17 km from Heraklion International Airport, and the drive takes less than 20 minutes. The route is straight and would be very easy for tourists to get to.

Gouves lies 79m above sea level. In Gouves, the climate is warm and temperate. The winter months are much rainier than the summer months in Gouves.

The peak travel season is during the months of March, April, May, June.

The food in Crete is packed with intense Mediterranean flavours. The food here is made from fresh and healthy ingredients, most of which are grown in Crete’s natural environment. Cretan cuisine would mostly include a bowl of gleaming olives at almost every meal. There are plenty of olive trees in Crete that provide an abundant supply of fresh olives.
