Laganas as a destination is particularly popular among youngsters as well as families. It is located in the southern part of Zakynthos, or also known as Zante, and is home to the largest beach on the island, with a length of 9 km.
The island of Zakynthos, and especially the bay of Laganas, is one of the most important shelters for the endangered species of the sea turtle Caretta-caretta. For this reason, Laganas beach is a part of the National Maritime Park of Zakynthos. This was founded for the protection of the ecosystem and the loggerhead sea turtles.
Aside from the sea turtle observation that you can do in Laganas, the place also offers a variety of activities such as scuba diving and an excursion to Marathonisi Beach. You can also do mini-golf, bowling, and horseback riding activities.
Laganas resort is quite developed and during the summer it turns into the party zone of Zante. The area is mostly known for its bustling nightlife as it offers a long strip of bars and clubs with modern international music, that remain open until early morning hours.
