Which are the best beaches in the world?

From Caribbean islands to the surfer shores of Hawaii, the world is full of stunning beaches that are more than just sand and sea; they are an experience calling out for you to enjoy them.

However, labeling one beach as the best depends on how you like to spend your time. To help you find the beach holiday that is right for you, here are our picks for the best beaches in the world.

Cap Falcó — Best for…RELAXATION

Majorca, Spain

Although within a stone’s throw from Majorca’s popular party spot, Magaluf, Cap Falcó is secluded and, for now at least, relatively unknown, making it perfect for a relaxing day at the beach. The sand is clean and comfortable, the water is shallow and calm, and the tree-covered cliffs on either side provide shade and channel a cool breeze. What’s more, there are loungers, toilets and shower facilities, and a small Spanish bar serving a selection of drinks, food and snacks; so, once you have laid down your beach towel, there is no reason to leave.

Silver Beach — Best for…FAMILIES & COUPLES

Koh Samui, Thailand

While the tranquil setting makes Silver Beach a popular beach spot for couples holiday-making in Thailand, the sandy haven on the east coast of Samui is a favourite for families, too. The near-transparent water is shallow and calm, and once your children are exhausted from spying the local marine life under the waves and in the rock pools, there are restaurants nearby. Meanwhile, there is a wide selection of beach loungers for those that want them, but the fine, white sand is just as comfortable to rest upon, especially while lying beneath a tall palm tree for some shade.

Playa d’en Bossa — Best for…PARTYING

Ibiza

For holidaymakers that like their sun and sand with a side of music and a bright-coloured cocktail, look no further than Europe’s party capital, Ibiza. Playa d’en Bossa has become Ibiza’s main beach for partying, primarily because it is the longest. Its popularity means it is equipped with deck chairs, showers, toilets and places to eat, famous DJs play regularly during the high season, and you still have access to crystal clear water if you fancy a dip in between all that dancing.

Blue Lagoon — Best for…DIVING

Oludeniz, Turkey

Oludeniz, Turkey

The Blue Lagoon in Oludeniz, Turkey, is more than a long stretch of soft sand surrounded by a beautifully green peninsula. It is also a protected national marine sanctuary. Consequently, the water is a perfect turquoise and is swarming with marine life around the coast and within the numerous underwater caves, making the Blue Lagoon second-to-none for scuba diving and snorkelling of all experience levels.

Bingin Beach — Best for…SURFING

Few beaches beat Bingin Beach for a spot that is as idyllic and relaxing as it is attractive to water-sports enthusiasts. While you can enjoy a whole host of water activities, the beach is a particular favourite among surfers, and the waves present a level of challenge that is suitable for skilled boarders, while there is a wide selection of schools for beginners, too.

Galapagos Beach — Best for…NATURE

Santa Cruz, The Galapagos Islands

Santa Cruz, The Galapagos Islands

The best way to enjoy everything the Galapagos Islands has to offer is to arrive on Santa Cruz and take the 2.5km hike to Galapagos Beach. Along the way you will spy incredible landscape views of the coast and witness some of the island’s unique plants, animals and birds. Just remember to take water and a hat with you because there are no shops or stalls along the way.

At the end, you are rewarded with the relatively secluded Galapagos Beach. Families of sea lions will play in the water and bathe in the sun just a few feet from you, and you can slap on your sunscreen and goggles to go snorkeling with small sharks and sea turtles.
